The 2020 Mike Kaney Scholarship was awarded to Treva Reid for her campaign video as she ran for City Council Member, District 7 in East Oakland. Her inspirational and poetic video is so unique that we knew we had to be a part of this project.
She paired with the Oakland poet and close friend, Porsche Kelly who narrated this video and took it to another level.
Due to this being a political ad, Treva was not given any monetary benefits, but awarded this title. We can’t wait to see what the future holds for her!

This video won Silver at the 2021 Pollie Awards in the category of: Internet Advertising - For Local/ Municipal/Mayoral - Small Budget (<$1 million).
The Pollie Awards, put on by the American Association of Political Consultants (AAPC), are the most prized and sought-after awards in the political communications and public affairs industries.

About this Scholarship
Mike Kaney (1985-2019)
In 2019 we lost our former business partner and close friend from terminal cancer. In honor of him, we created the Mike Kaney Scholarship in which 88spire awards once a year to a cause, business or creative who is doing amazing things in this world.
Mike was known for always believing in others, even if they didn’t, and helping them succeed in life while encouraging them to follow their dreams and passions. He was a firm believer in “community over competition” which is why we bring in our fellow creatives to these projects.
